Renting your own sound system for your pop up wedding
Many couples run their own sound system and playlist for their wedding reception. I don’t think this is a good idea if you’re hosting a large venue, 100+ guests affair.

One thing about pop up weddings and smaller home based weddings is the fact that you don’t really need a PA system. You could call this a low tech solution. Everyone can hear you fine, because the crowd is smaller.
And everyone is crowded into the living room. But it doesn’t matter. Everyone is happy, excited and feeling the love.

Of course the weather needs to play a role here. Any pop up wedding can have the exact same elements as a larger event with hundreds of guests. But with way less expense and hassle.
I’ve said it before, worth mentioning again, pop up weddings are getting more and more popular for these reasons. Less hassle, less expense, and far more fun and intimate. Here’s a short clip from Ashley and Mikes backyard wedding.
When you’re so close to your guests they feel your speech…
One of the best things about a pop up wedding at home if the level of closeness and intimacy between you and your guests.
Watch this short video to get a sense of what I’m talking about. Erika is delivering her maid of honour speech. No loud ambient noise, glasses, wait staff running around banging dishes.

This is not a new idea for smaller, more intimate weddings. In your living room, or like with Mike and Ashley, in the house and backyard.
An at home wedding is perfectly suited for a pop up wedding too. Especially in these times where we’re limited in attendance and larger big venue affairs.

Back in 1996 when I married Tina, we decided that our wedding was going to be small, early in the day and in February.
We married in mid winter because my schedule that year and summer was jammed with weddings, and her being at that time a full time accountant, her spring schedule was also jammed. Tax season for her, wedding season for me.
We had two options, either wait a year or get married in three months. We opted with sooner than later.
Being a full time wedding photographer myself I had little desire for a large wedding. She agreed. Hence, a family only wedding at 10:00AM.
Those are our reasons for our ‘pop up wedding’. Many others have their reasons. The popularity in pop up weddings attest to the fact that many of the reason overlap. Mainly, no desire for a large affair, budget and a strong desire for keeping is simple, small and elegant.
Was our wedding the first “pop up wedding”? It was at that time not the norm, so to speak. Most weddings were large affairs with many guests.
I always felt that a smaller wedding like ours was more about ‘utility’ over pageantry. And was very similar to the way our parents and grand parents got married back in the day. They had smaller family only affairs.
And it was more about simply getting married.

Pop Up wedding in the forest…
Last August 2019 when we hosted a one day pop up event at Fielding Park in Lively, our first pop up wedding of the day was at 10:00AM with Emilie and Ken.
The plan was to meet up in the parking lot, walk into the trails deep into the forest, exchange vows and then walk the trails.
Afterwards everyone headed out to a resort at French River and continue the celebration.
Thankfully the weather was perfect!
A few memories….
