Rain can be a real damper. Worse yet, when you have a large crowd of close friends and family, all outdoors, nothing but umbrellas, hopefully, and if it starts raining, that dampening effect made way worse by the mere fact that so many are in attendance. Ugh….what a mess!
Not so much with a smaller, more manageable crowd at a pop up wedding.
I’ve seen it all, been there, done that. Forty years as a wedding photographer makes it so. At a recent pop up wedding, back yard, dark rain clouds looming, we simply waited. No big deal. It was easy.
In fact, we waiting during three rain showers. This delayed the actual ceremony by close to thirty minutes.
Did I mention no big deal? It wasn’t a big deal. No one thought so. We all took it in stride. Hid under umbrellas or in the garage or the house. Try that with 200 guests.
And eventually the rain stopped, the blue sky opened up and we proceeded with the ceremony. The signing table got soaked, so did the grass underfoot. But that didn’t matter to anyone. All spirits with high and dry and the wedding went off without another hitch.
