A random post. Not much to do with pop up weddings. Onwards…
Most kids love to fly. That’s why I often create these moments where dad throws the kid up in the air. They do this anyways, why not? Sometimes, like the first shot below, I see it happening, so I grab the moment. Fun. Scary for mom. Kids love it.
And it creates some cool memories of the wedding day.

As we were driving to our wedding location where Katie and Chris were going to exchange vows and host a small almost Pop Up style wedding event in her parents yard, I turn to Tina and ask: “You enjoy officiating these weddings, don’t you?”
She replied “Yes, I do. I really do. It’s kinda cool.”
See, this is her first year, first summer as a wedding officiant. And she’s kinda good at it. I have to admit too she’s very, very organized and plans things to a T. That’s always been her super powers.
As we were driving, she’s still rehearsing the vows over again. She wants to make sure things go well.
It’s her style. She wants to do a good job and it shows.

What happens when your brother in law is skilled in all things carpentry. And you need a custom made wedding arch for your pop up weddings.
This…..
It’s almost eight feet tall. Comes a part for easy travel. This is key, since we’ll be bringing it to our pop up wedding events.
Imagine this creatively designed arch tucked in among a strand of trees, on grass, surrounded by white covered chairs and accented with coral wraps?
And we can bring it to any event. It’s modern, with a mix of vintage and elegance.

Back yard weddings are popular these days.
Of course it’s amazing when the weather is perfect. However, having a ‘back up plan’ in the event of rain is important, whether it’s a pop up wedding or larger wedding with many in attendance.

Last Saturday Tina officiated such an event, where there were no more than 20 family and close friends in attendance.

I’ve said this before, how when I mention the term ‘pop up wedding’, most of the time the reply is: “What’s a pop up wedding?”
I don’t blame them. We had no idea what they were either at one time. Many times one of the comments we hear is, after we describe it best we can: “Oh, it’s like eloping.”
Well, sort of. But not really. An elopement means the couple gets married without telling anyone. They show up: “Guess what? We got married!”
A pop up wedding is different in that it’s very much the same as a larger wedding, with all the pageantry and fanfare. Except, smaller. Much smaller.
And often at some cool, odd, unusual location. Court house weddings, Las Vegas Elvis or drive through weddings are a thing of the past.
A pop up wedding allows you to do it your way. Sure, you can elope and have a pop up wedding. Just the two of you and two of your closest friends. (All weddings need two witnesses to make it legal). Or, invite up to 40 of your closest friends and relatives.
The beauty of a pop up wedding is you have the room, the flexibility to make it your own. And we’re here to help. It’s what we do.

I was in Blind River recently and couldn’t help but notice what I would consider cool spots to host a pop up wedding. This location, right beside the RiverSide, seems perfect. That’s the river in the background.
Of course, the weather would need to cooperate, but a solid back up plan in the event of rain, is essential.

I’ve noticed this years ago when photographing weddings and engagement portraits on location. Everyone loves water. And love the idea of being photographed near, or on the water.
My guess is this….water is a symbol of life. More specifically, new life. Which can be a metaphor for a new life as a couple or the promise of bringing forth new life with babies and a family.
Who knows? It’s my take…what’s yours? We love water…
And it makes a great backdrop.
