One of the biggest cultural events is the invention of cell phones. We all love em, and we all got one. And, we’re now all photographers.

Back yard weddings are popular…
Back yard weddings are popular these days.
Of course it’s amazing when the weather is perfect. However, having a ‘back up plan’ in the event of rain is important, whether it’s a pop up wedding or larger wedding with many in attendance.

One of Sudbury’s favorite place to head to for food, fun, social and a small wedding.
Last Saturday Tina officiated such an event, where there were no more than 20 family and close friends in attendance.
More to come soon!

To elope or not to elope? That is the question…
We had another inquiry yesterday from a couple who are interested in eloping. This Sudbury couple googled the terms: Sudbury elopement and we showed up.
I wrote about eloping yesterday.
Here’s the dictionary definition of eloping:
Elope
verb
run away secretly in order to get married, especially without parental consent.
This explains in many ways why eloping and a pop-up wedding are so very different. A pop up wedding, well, everyone knows they’re getting married. It’s not a ‘secret’.
And, even though it’s a much smaller crowd -closest friends and relatives- it breaks away from the long standing tradition of a large wedding- with all its hassles, pageantry and expense.
One of the biggest challenges that comes up, and often resolved, is how do you only invite your closest friends and relatives?
Isn’t it bad manners to exclude?
Actually, no. It’s not. This is a fear which is made up in our imaginations. Most are supportive and happy for the couple as they start their lives together.
That, plus, it solves the bigger problems and challenges that goes along with “who do you invite?” and “how do I keep it small?”
Simple. Have a pop up wedding. No need to elope is there?

PopUp Weddings….not just an ‘elopement’
I’ve said this before, how when I mention the term ‘pop up wedding’, most of the time the reply is: “What’s a pop up wedding?”
I don’t blame them. We had no idea what they were either at one time. Many times one of the comments we hear is, after we describe it best we can: “Oh, it’s like eloping.”
Well, sort of. But not really. An elopement means the couple gets married without telling anyone. They show up: “Guess what? We got married!”
A pop up wedding is different in that it’s very much the same as a larger wedding, with all the pageantry and fanfare. Except, smaller. Much smaller.
And often at some cool, odd, unusual location. Court house weddings, Las Vegas Elvis or drive through weddings are a thing of the past.
A pop up wedding allows you to do it your way. Sure, you can elope and have a pop up wedding. Just the two of you and two of your closest friends. (All weddings need two witnesses to make it legal). Or, invite up to 40 of your closest friends and relatives.
The beauty of a pop up wedding is you have the room, the flexibility to make it your own. And we’re here to help. It’s what we do.

Pop Up wedding location ideas….Blind River visit…
I was in Blind River recently and couldn’t help but notice what I would consider cool spots to host a pop up wedding. This location, right beside the RiverSide, seems perfect. That’s the river in the background.
Of course, the weather would need to cooperate, but a solid back up plan in the event of rain, is essential.

Lake Lauzon Pop Up Wedding?
One of my favorite summer drives is to my home town of Blind River, Ontario. I always stop in at Lake Lauzon resort, run by my cousins Marc & Sharon Provencher.
I’ve witnessed these two slowly grow and improve this amazing location, on one of the most beautiful lakes in Ontario. Marc and Sharon have added new docks, gazebos and renovated all the cottages, adding new low-cost bunkies for the traveler on a budget. This includes a floating bunkie on the water- more on that soon!
I kept thinking this spot would be perfect for a pop-up wedding, for anyone from Blind River or the North Shore.
They can accommodate families, casual catering and most amenities.

What’s with the water obsession?
I’ve noticed this years ago when photographing weddings and engagement portraits on location. Everyone loves water. And love the idea of being photographed near, or on the water.
My guess is this….water is a symbol of life. More specifically, new life. Which can be a metaphor for a new life as a couple or the promise of bringing forth new life with babies and a family.
Who knows? It’s my take…what’s yours? We love water…
And it makes a great backdrop.

Heather and Derek had a beautiful day in Blezard Valley for a pop-up wedding. They had about 16 people in attendance, all family. Derek was super nervous prior to, but as it turns out, Heather was even more nervous.
The hall looked stunning, so did the bride, and Tina led the vows as their official wedding officiant. We took many photographs….more to come.
Congrats to Heather and Derek!
